Dr. Caroline Le Poole, PhD is a faculty member of the Oncology Research Institute at Loyola University Chicago. She received her PhD degree from Amsterdam University in the Netherlands on 'Aspects of Melanocytes in relation to Vitiligo' and has studied the pathomechnisim of vitiligo for over 25 years, originally contributing to the revelation that vitiligo is a T cell-mediated autoimmune disease. Research in the lab is geared towards developing immunotherapy for the treatment of melanoma and its counterpart vitiligo, as well as other conditions where melanoma-associated antigens come into play and Dr. Le Poole's work reflects the lab's continued joint efforts to thoroughly understand the etiology of vitiligo and to design and implement potential treatments for this disease. Dr. Le Poole is also the current PanAmerican Society for Pigment Cell Research president.
