Carlos F. Bechara, MD, DFSVS, is a board-certified vascular surgeon at Rush. He earned his degree at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed his fellowship in vascular surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.
Bechara performs open and endovascular, or minimally invasive, surgery on veins, arteries, and blood vessels. He is an expert in aortic surgery and peripheral artery disease (PAD) care. He also provides treatment for patients with dialysis needs; complex inferior vena cava (IVC) filter removal; venous compressions and obstructions, including IVC/SVC occlusion; May-Thurner and nutcracker syndromes; pulmonary embolisms; and arteriovenous malformations (AVM).
Bechara is fluent in both English and Arabic and is working on improving his French. He believes in taking time with each patient to explain their treatment and even draws pictures to illustrate their surgery. His goal is to build lasting relationships with patients and their families around their vascular disease care, providing them with equal and compassionate treatment. He offers second opinions on care plans and encourages patients to seek them when they’d like to explore their options more thoroughly. He is also interested in education and innovation to improve the field of vascular surgery and train the next generation of surgeons.
