Bernard R. Bendok MD, MSCI, FAANS, FACS, FAHA

Bernard R. Bendok, M.D., is the William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professor and Chair of Neurological Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He specializes in complex neurovascular and skull base pathologies, brain tumors, aneurysms, vascular malformations, acoustic neuromas, pituitary tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, and carotid disease.

As part of the multidisciplinary neurovascular, skull base, and brain tumor programs at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Bendok is committed to offering the most up-to-date, cutting-edge treatment options for his patients. He believes in a personalized approach that combines surgical precision with compassion and a focus on quality of life. Dr. Bendok is focused on getting to know each patient so that care can be tailored in a way that puts the needs of the patient first.

Dr. Bendok completed his medical school training at Northwestern's Feinberg School of Medicine, followed by residency training at the same institution. He completed his fellowship training in Neurovascular and Neurointerventional Surgery at the State University of Buffalo with the pioneer L. Nelson Hopkins. He spent over a decade practicing under the mentorship of an international leader in Micro Neurosurgery, Dr. H. Hunt Batjer. Over the past decade, Dr. Bendok has assembled a world-class team to develop an internationally recognized Neurosurgery department at Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Dr. Bendok is dedicated to surgical excellence, research, and education. An innovator in cerebrovascular diseases, skull base anatomy, and minimally invasive surgery, he directs the Neurosurgical Simulation and Innovation Laboratory and co-directs the Precision Neurotherapeutics Laboratory. Leading multiple clinical trials on stroke, neurovascular, and neuro-oncological diseases, Dr. Bendok focuses on improving the efficacy, safety, and precision of neuroscience patient care.

Dr. Bendok serves as the program director of the Neurological Surgery Residency and Cerebrovascular, Endovascular, and Skull Base Fellowship Programs at Mayo Clinic, Arizona. He has authored over 400 research papers and chapters and is frequently invited to speak on topics related to his subspecialty training.
