Dr. Behroze Adi Vachha is a board-certified radiologist with clinical expertise in imaging the brain, neck, and spine using CT and MRI. Her research interests lie in the advanced imaging of brain tumors using functional MRI (fMRI), both for preoperative planning and to understand the underlying brain networks that govern important functions such as language, motor, and memory. Optimal treatment outcomes in patients with brain tumors require complete resection of the tumor while preserving function in essential surrounding brain areas. While traditional fMRI requires patients to perform tasks to identify these important functional areas, She is studying the use of a task-free fMRI technique that does not require active subject participation. The greatest impact of this technique will be on those patients who cannot tolerate traditional task-based fMRI, such as young children and patients requiring anesthesia. She works closely with colleagues in neurosurgery, neurology, and radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering to make these techniques available to our patients.
