Basil S. Cherpelis MD

Dr. Basil S. Cherpelis, M.D. has been named the 2017 Surgeon of the Year by the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons for his excellent surgical skills, exemplary devotion to and caring of his patients, and for his leadership and contributions to the goals of this Society.

Dr. Cherpelis is a Professor of Dermatology and Chief of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He is also the Director of the Dermatology Residency Training Program. Dr. Cherpelis completed his residency training in dermatology at USF School of Medicine, and then completed his Mohs surgery fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He has authored over 50 manuscripts and textbook chapters in the medical literature and is actively engaged in funded research concerning etiologic factors in the development of skin cancer.
