Barbara Nye MD

Dr. Barbara Ludmila Nye, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and a UCNS board-certified headache medicine specialist. She serves as Director of the Headache Fellowship at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and is an Associate Professor of Neurology at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Dr. Nye is also honored to serve on the board of the Alliance for Headache Disorders Advocacy, where she actively supports initiatives focused on improving care and access for patients living with headache disorders.

Dr. Nye earned her medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where she first developed her passion for neurology and headache medicine. She completed both her neurology residency and subspecialty headache medicine training at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

From 2015 to 2021, Dr. Nye served on the faculty at Dartmouth as Assistant Professor of Neurology, Co-Director of the Headache Center, and Director of the Headache Fellowship. During her tenure, she expanded the fellowship program from one to two fellows per year and developed a comprehensive curriculum encompassing inpatient and outpatient headache management, advocacy, and research opportunities. She also served as a board member of the Headache Cooperative of New England.

In January 2022, Dr. Nye joined Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Headache Program as Headache Fellowship Director. In addition to providing specialized patient care, she is deeply involved in medical education, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Her academic interests include clinical research and quality improvement initiatives, and she currently serves as principal investigator on several clinical studies focused on headache disorders.

Dr. Nye is a passionate advocate for patients with migraine and other headache conditions. She regularly participates in advocacy and educational initiatives, including Miles for Migraine events and Headache on the Hill since 2019. She is particularly committed to reducing the stigma surrounding headache disorders and improving patient access to innovative therapies. Following the introduction of CGRP-targeted medications, she worked directly with the New Hampshire Medicaid Medication Review Board to help ensure equitable access to these treatments for patients regardless of insurance coverage.
