Asim Farooq MD

Dr. Asim V. Farooq is a Professor, Vice Chair for Academic Affairs, and Director of Medical Student Education in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at the University of Chicago. He received his medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine - during his time there, he was awarded a grant from Research to Prevent Blindness, allowing him to devote a year to study the pathogenesis of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections in the cornea. He then completed ophthalmology residency training at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary and a fellowship in cornea and external disease at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dr. Farooq has published approximately 70 peer-reviewed articles as well as numerous abstracts and book chapters, and has been an invited speaker nationally and internationally. He also holds several extramural positions, including with the Eye Bank Association of America (Committee Chair) and the Chicago Ophthalmological Society (President). His clinical and research interests are focused on ocular adverse events from targeted chemotherapeutic agents, viral infections of the cornea, and ocular graft versus host disease.
