Dr Shamala A Masurkar MASURKAR hospital was founded by (Gynaecologist & Anaesthetist) & Late Dr Arun G Masurkar (General Surgeon) in 1973. Both studied in Mumbai city at the GS Medical College & T N Medical colleges respectively and had a burning desire to introduce specialised care in Obstetrics, Gynaecology & General Surgery; (which in those days was available only to people living in big cities) into rural Karnataka. It was the first-ever consultant run hospital in the taluka town of Gokak & was set up on rented premises in the heart of the town.

They received a tremendous response from their patients; and decided to build their own Maternity-Surgical hospital, on a large plot of land situated on the Sankeshwar Yaragatti Munavalli Highway; on the outskirts of Gokak. In the early days, it was a barren piece of land with a 30 bedded hospital. Over the years, through their untiring efforts towards afforestation, the area was gradually transformed into a lush green plot of land, housing a hospital amidst soothing greenery.

In 1998, the new wing was inaugurated when Dr Seema (Gynaecologist) & Dr Ashwin (General & Laparoscopic Surgeon) joined after completing their medical studies. Both were born & brought up in Mumbai, but were keen to carry on the good work being done. They had therefore decided to settle in Gokak with the dream of further advancing maternity, gynaecological & surgical care. Together they introduced Advanced Minimal Access Surgery (Laparoscopic Surgery), Endoscopic Urology, Fertility enhancing surgery (Laparo-hysteroscopy) & Infertility treatment including Intra-uterine insemination. Today, we are a team of dedicated, experienced doctors who believe in working with our patients to maintain and improve their health. We believe in providing state of the art surgical treatment with a personal touch; to our patients. We believe that a hospital should have a friendly, relaxed & homely atmosphere.
