Armand H. Antommaria MD, PhD

Armand H. Matheny Antommaria, MD, PhD, FAAP, has been named director of the Cincinnati Children’s Ethics Center and the Lee Ault Carter Chair of Pediatric Ethics. Antommaria will lead development of programs in clinical, research and organizational ethics. The Ethics Center will support clinicians, researchers and administrators to evaluate the ethical implications of different options. The Center also will conduct education and research.
Prior to joining Cincinnati Children’s, Antommaria was chair of the Ethics Committee and Ethics Consultation Subcommittee at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City. He also was an associate professor of pediatrics in the Division of Inpatient Medicine at the University of Utah, as well as an adjunct associate professor in the Division of Medical Ethics and Humanities. Antommaria has published in journals, including JAMA and the Hastings Center Report, on organ donation after circulatory death, critical care triage and other ethical issues. He also is the lead author of two AAP policy statements and first author of the chapter on ethics published by the Task Force for Pediatric Emergency Mass Critical Care. Antommaria earned his MD at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, and his PhD in religious ethics at the University of Chicago Divinity School. He completed his pediatric residency at the University of Utah.
