Dr. Bleyer is a medical advisor to CureSearch and LiveStrong, which are young adult and older adolescent cancer initiatives. He is also a medical advisor to the Cancer Treatment Center at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Ore., and a clinical research professor at Oregon Health & Sciences University in Portland. He served as Director of Community Oncology at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center for five years, and was chair of the Children's Cancer Group and head of Pediatrics at M. D. Anderson for 10 years. During the past three decades, Dr. Bleyer was awarded research grants totaling more than $75 million as a principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, and the Leukemia Society of America. His research has been published in more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and books. He completed his medical and pediatric residencies and a fellowship in radiation oncology at the University of Washington in Seattle. In the 1980s, he was the American Cancer Society Professor of Clinical Oncology at the UW and was in charge of the cancer curriculum in the UW School of Medicine.
