Anja C. Roden, M.D., studied medicine at the Humboldt University of Berlin and at the Technical University of Dresden in Germany. After her residency in general surgery and research training in cancer immunology, Dr. Roden completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Roden was the recipient of the Dr. Hobart K.B. Allebach Fellowship in Pathology Outstanding Resident Award. Her residency was followed by a fellowship in surgical pathology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester. Dr. Roden completed her training with a Mayo scholarship to receive additional training in pulmonary pathology at Mayo Clinic.

During her training, she visited with Samuel A. Yousem, M.D., and his colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center to expand her knowledge on lung transplant pathology. Dr. Roden is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.

In 2010, Dr. Roden joined the faculty of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester and is a member of the Pulmonary Pathology, Lung and Heart Transplant, Frozen Section, and Autopsy working groups. She serves as the associate director of the Pulmonary Pathology Fellowship, as the head of the Heart and Lung Transplant Working Group, and as a member of the Surgical Pathology Fellowship Committee.
