Dr. Andrew Cosgarea is a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His areas of clinical expertise include sports injuries, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, elbow UCL reconstruction, knee ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair, shoulder instability stabilization surgery, shoulder joint dislocations and labrum lesions. Dr. Cosgarea serves as the head team physician for the Johns Hopkins University Department of Athletics and the director of the Division of Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

He received his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University. He earned his M.D. from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.He completed his residency at the University of Rochester and performed a fellowship in sports medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Dr. Cosgarea was an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Ohio State University Medical Center and an orthopedic consultant with the Ohio State Athletic Department.

Dr. Cosgarea''s research interests include patellofemoral disorders and treatment, throwing shoulder biomechanics, ACL reconstruction, computer simulation of knee biomechanics, treatments for adolescent sports injuries, and knee and shoulder rehabilitation. Dr. Cosgarea was a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles from 2000 to 2010. He was named one of the “125 Knee Surgeons and Specialist to Know” by Becker’s Spine Review in 2012. He is a member of various professional organizations, including the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.
