Dr Amra Rao is Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist and Organizational Consultant.
She has worked in the NHS for 24 years specializing in working with adolescents, adults, couples and families. Alongside her private practice, she continues to work in NHS as the Head Psychological Therapies Services. She has been involved in developing specialist psychological therapies for children, adults and older adults. Alongside her training in clinical psychology offering need led, formulation based interventions, she specializes in therapies such as Dynamic Interpersonal Psychotherapy (DIT) for depression, Mentalisation Based Therapy (MBT) for entrenched interpersonal difficulties / impulsive behaviour and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, sleep and other health related difficulties. She is an accredited supervisor in DIT and MBT.
Dr Rao is also an Organizational Consultant and Coach. In this role she has worked with managers, senior executives from the financial sector, lawyers, academics, politicians and medical professionals. She has been a staff consultant on a postgraduate programme for organizational consultancy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. She is a committee member of BPS’s Leadership and Management Faculty with a particular role in the wellbeing and leadership training programmes. She is the founding Director of Psychological Horizons, which offers leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, expert witness and change management programs in the private and public sector in the UK, South Asia & Middle East. She has been affiliated with a number of Universities and has taken up various teaching, supervision and consultancy projects.
She holds a specialist interest in working with clients from diverse cultures. She has published in the area of leadership, compassion, consulting to teams and effectiveness of psychological therapies. She is registered as a clinical psychologist with the Health Care Professions Council and the British Psychological Society.
