Amandeep K. Shergill, MD, MS, is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She obtained her medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UCSF. She subsequently received an MS in Environmental Health Science with a focus on ergonomics from the University of California, Berkeley. Her clinical interests include IBD, with a focus on endoscopy in IBD, and quality of endoscopy. She was first author of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guideline on the role of endoscopy in IBD. She has participated in numerous ASGE courses that seek to optimize the quality of endoscopy in IBD.

As Associate Editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Dr Shergill has most recently spearheaded efforts to publish the first special issues devoted to endoscopy in IBD. Her research interests focus on endoscopic ergonomics. She co-founded the UCSF/UCB Center for Ergonomic Endoscopy. The center's mission is to understand the mechanisms that cause work-related musculoskeletal disorders in endoscopists and to design and evaluate equipment, tools, or work practices that reduce the risk of injury and optimize human performance.
