Amandeep K Shergill, MD, MS, is Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), and Director of Endoscopy at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. She obtained her medical degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at UCSF.

Her clinical interests include IBD, with a focus on endoscopy in IBD. She was the first author of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy guideline on the role of endoscopy in IBD. She has participated in numerous ASGE courses that seek to optimize the quality of endoscopy in IBD. As Associate Editor for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Dr. Shergill has most recently spearheaded efforts to publish the first special issues devoted to endoscopy in IBD.

Her research interests focus on endoscopic ergonomics. She was the recipient of the 2008 ASGE Career Development Award and Endoscopic Research Award, which afforded her the unique opportunity of obtaining a master's degree in environmental health science with a focus on ergonomics at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB). She also co-founded the UCSF/UCB Center for Ergonomic Endoscopy. The center's mission is to understand the mechanisms that cause work-related musculoskeletal disorders in endoscopists and to design and evaluate equipment, tools, or work practices that reduce the risk of injury and optimize human performance.
