Dr. Alexander S. Niven earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Pulmonary / Critical Care Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He is currently the Internal Medicine Program Director and Medical Director of Respiratory Care Services at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA.

Dr. Niven is a clinical assistant professor for the Pulmonary Division of the University of Washington and holds an additional faculty appointment as an associate professor at the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences. He is a fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and the American College of Physicians (FACP) and has served in leadership roles for a variety of medical societies. He is the recipient of 10 teaching awards over his medical career and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Niven is the co-chair for the ACCP Airway Management Training Program and has an active interest in simulation-based medical education.
