Dr. Alexander R. Vaccaro is the Richard H. Rothman Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery and Professor of Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University, and President of Rothman Institute. A leading expert in spine care, he has authored over 1,200 peer-reviewed publications, 385 book chapters, and edited 67+ textbooks.
Graduating summa cum laude from Boston College and with honors from Georgetown University School of Medicine, he completed his orthopaedic residency at Thomas Jefferson University, a spine fellowship at the University of San Diego, and earned a PhD in spinal trauma.
Dr. Vaccaro is a past president of major spine societies, including the Cervical Spine Research Society and the American Spinal Injury Association, and has received the Leon Wiltse Award for excellence in spine research and leadership. He co-directs the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Centre and the Spine Fellowship Program at Jefferson, training the next generation of spine specialists.
