Alan WittgroveMD, FASMBS, FACS
Alan Wittgrove graduated from St. Louis College of Pharmacy before going to medical school at University of Missouri at Colombia. He did his residency in the US Navy and served for 10 years as a naval surgeon.Dr Wittgrove performed the first laparoscopic gastric bypass in the world on October 27, 1993. He has trained others extensively on his laparoscopic technique and has been course director for numerous bariatric courses worldwide as well as published on his outcomes during his 30 years in private practice.
Alan Wittgrove has a is the past president of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). Among many accomplishments he was a Professor of Surgery at University California San Diego. He co-authored the original credentialing guidelines for ASMBS and is currently the Medical Director of Wittgrove Bariatric Center in Del Mar California.
Dr Wittgrove has received the following awards: ASMBS Circle of Excellence, ASMBS Outstanding Achievement Award, International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity Honorary Lifetime Achievement Award, Cleveland Clinic Florida Master Surgeon and Pioneer Award.
Dr Wittgrove is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
