Aditi Vijay, PhD, EdM is a clinical psychologist with training in CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness based approaches who co-leads the Launch Program for transition-age youth at Georgetown. Dr. Vijay trained under Dr. Alan Fruzzetti, one of the world leaders in the field of DBT and the major developer of family and couples programs utilizing DBT. Dr. Vijay was formerly an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland before joining the Georgetown faculty and also completed a Master’s in Education, focusing on risk and prevention, at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. She is also the leader of the DBT seminar for fellows.
Dr. Vijay’s overarching research interests focus on understanding patterns of emotion regulation related to: 1) risky behavior in trauma-exposed individuals, for example, sexual victimization and substance use problems; 2) differences in patterns of emotion regulation across subtypes of traumatic events (e.g. sexual trauma versus physical abuse) as it relates to intervention strategies, 3) from a transdiagnostic perspective, and; 3) process and outcome research in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Currently, she is studying the role of the consultation team in DBT. Additionally, she participates in a collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs that is evaluating mental health outcomes of children of deployed soldiers.
