Abraham R. Khan, MD, is a nationally recognized gastroenterologist, esophageal disease specialist, and academic physician who serves as Medical Director of the Center for Esophageal Health at NYU Langone Health and Associate Professor of Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. His clinical expertise lies in the diagnosis and management of complex esophageal disorders, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett’s esophagus, achalasia, swallowing disorders, esophageal motility disorders, and other conditions affecting the upper gastrointestinal tract. Through a multidisciplinary approach, he works closely with surgeons, advanced endoscopists, dietitians, and allied specialists to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Dr. Khan completed his medical degree, residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Gastroenterology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He has developed particular expertise in advanced diagnostic technologies for esophageal and motility disorders, including high-resolution esophageal manometry, pH impedance testing, and functional lumen imaging probe (FLIP) technology. His research focuses on esophageal motility disorders, GERD, eosinophilic esophagitis, swallowing dysfunction, and innovative approaches to improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes for patients with complex foregut diseases.

Beyond his clinical and research contributions, Dr. Khan is an active leader in national gastroenterology organizations and medical education. He has held leadership positions within the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Foregut Society. A dedicated educator and prolific author, he has contributed extensively to the scientific literature and helps train future gastroenterologists through NYU’s fellowship and educational programs.
