Hernia Society of India (HSI)

Hernia repair is one of the commonest surgical procedure performed by surgeons. Over the past two decades there has been a steady emergence of minimal access techniques for the treatment of inguinal as well as ventral hernias. In the past few years abdominal wall reconstruction for complex ventral hernias is making rapid strides. It is essential that surgeons treating patients with hernias keep abreast with the rapidly expanding knowledge in this field. This is the official website of the Hernia Society of India – a national organisation dedicated to advancing the science of herniology.

In September 2004 a group of like-minded surgeons from the Asia Pacific region came together to form the Asia Pacific Hernia Society (APHS). Hernia Society of India (HSI) was formed then as the national chapter of APHS with the aim of propagating the aims and missions of the parent society in India. The object of HSI shall be to promote and advance the teaching and research in hernia surgery in India and the Indian subcontinent. In 2017 HSI has grown to a vibrant 900+ member organization and regularly conducts meetings and updates across the country.
