TThe German Society for Nutritional Medicine eV (DGEM) is the medical-scientific society for nutritional medicine in Germany. It is a multidisciplinary association of all professional groups that deal with nutritional issues in the fields of medicine, nutrition, care and pharmacy. The society brings together more than 3,000 members who research, teach, treat and advise with a focus on nutritional medicine.

The DGEM promotes science, practice and education and training in the field of nutritional medicine and metabolism research. It regularly organizes advanced training courses, symposiums and congresses in order to make knowledge and experience usable and to start and deepen the interdisciplinary exchange with other domestic and foreign institutions working in this field. Together with other specialist societies, the DGEM advertises grants and other research funds for basic research and clinically applied research.

Objectives:
• Create binding structures for medical nutritional care and for courses of action (in hospitals, retirement and nursing homes and in the outpatient area).
• Promotion of research and evidence-based nutritional medicine (e.g. guidelines)
• Promotion of education, training and further education in the field of clinical nutrition and metabolism research
• Perception of the DGEM as an expert in questions of nutrition with regard to disease prevention and therapy
