Organizer of the annual course entitled “Medical and Surgical Aspects of Esophageal and Foregut Disorders: Pathophysiology and Treatment”

Mission Statement:
The mission of the Foundation for Research and Education in Esophageal and Foregut Disease is to provide in-depth and state-of-the-art continuing medical education for physicians, nurses and other health-care providers and to promote research and clinical investigation in esophageal and foregut disorders that enhance patient care and improve treatment outcomes.

A main function of the Foundation for Research and Education in Esophageal and Foregut Disease, Inc is support and organization of the annual small group educational meeting entitled “Medical and Surgical Aspects of Esophageal and Foregut Disorders: Pathophysiology and Treatment”. The course, which began in 1986, is specifically designed to be a classroom-like environment for a small group of interested physicians and allied health personnel. The course is particularly appreciated by gastroenterologists and gastrointestinal surgeons with interest in esophageal disorders and for those who have set up a swallowing center and function as a team to collaboratively approach esophageal problems. The lectures are designed to encourage discussion on a broad variety of esophageal topics including both benign and malignant disorders. It is held annually in the winter on the island of Hawaii. The island changes from year to year, but the goal is to provide a high-intensity educational environment while allowing time in the afternoon to enjoy the warmth and beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Participation in the course will allow participants to get in-depth and up-to-date information on all aspects of esophageal and foregut diseases.
