The American Academy of Clinical Psychiatrists was founded in 1975 by George Winokur, MD, and others who shared the belief that a wealth of clinically relevant data can be found in every psychiatrist’s clinical experience. The organization provides a forum to share information for psychiatrists engaged in direct patient care, and to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments relevant to the practice of psychiatry.
AACP Goals:
• Providing state-of-the-art scientific data to practicing psychiatrists through meetings and scholarly publications.
• Strengthening the image of psychiatry as a medical specialty guided by scientific principles in collaboration with other medical disciplines.
• Collaborating with other professional organizations to promote cooperation and understanding of their common interests.
• Encouraging the participation of psychiatrists-in-training and early-career psychiatrists in their organization.
