Overview:
This continuing education course explores the issues of overweight, underweight, and eating disorders among vegans. It reviews current evidence on the weight status of vegans and their relative risk for eating disorders. The causes and consequences of weight challenges are addressed, and a practical guide for optimizing clinical outcomes is provided.

Learning Objectives:
After completing this continuing education course, nutrition professionals should be better able to:
• State the results of The EPIC-Oxford Study and the Adventist Health Study-2 as they pertain to BMIs of similar health-conscious individuals with different dietary patterns.
• Identify the type of vegan diet that puts individuals at greatest risk for underweight.
• Describe the phenomenon of “pseudovegetarianism” and explain why many individuals with eating disorders use it.
• List at least five practical ways to assist vegans who are overweight, underweight, or who have eating disorders achieve their health goals.
