We will share our lessons learned from these clinical encounters with the assistance of a clinical psychiatric pharmacist. We will highlight a clinical case of Major Depressive Disorder masked by anxiety symptoms. Additionally, we will highlight the difficulties of managing anxiety symptoms in a patient with Bipolar Disorder. We will review management of traditional anxiety disorders in the context of medical co-morbidity and aging with chronic benzodiazepine use. Lastly, we will review a case of neurocognitive decline with associated anxiety symptoms. Our clinical psychiatric pharmacist discussant will review clinical pearls related to the cases presented. Additionally, we will share knowledge regarding literature updates, as well as guidelines for treatment of the aging patient with anxiety.
Objectives for Webinar:
• Explore the similarities and differences between uncomplicated anxiety and a mixed episode of bipolar disorder.
• Review options for safely tapering benzodiazepines in geriatric patients while still managing anxiety.
• Discuss complications and subsequent pharmacological management of anxiety and PTSD symptoms in older adults with major neurocognitive
disorder.
• Review and recognize a presentation of major depressive disorder mimicking new-onset anxiety disorder
