Description:
Ms. Fowler will provide evidence from animal and human studies on the increased risks of obesity, cardiovascular events, and mortality itself from the consumption of non-nutritive sweeteners. Drs. Hallberg and Primack will then provide their personal experiences and views on the use of artificial sweeteners in practice followed by a panel discussion including all speakers.

Presentation Objectives:
• Gain perspectives on the use of artificial sweeteners in clinical practice
• Identify increased risks with regards to obesity, cardiometabolic risk factors, cardiovascular events, and mortality itself, among humans who have consumed diet sodas and/or other diet drinks daily, in long-term, large-scale, prospective observational studies
• Identify potential mechanisms through which chronic NNS exposure might increase the risk of obesity, and other cardiometabolic risk factors, in susceptible individuals - and to propose a re-thinking of our approaches to sweetened beverages
• Identify increased risks with regards to weight gain, adiposity, glucose intolerance, and other metabolic abnormalities, which have been detected in animals exposed chronically to non-nutritive sweeteners (NNS)

Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
