OVERVIEW

Use of Peptide-Based Formulations for Optimizing Enteral Nutrition Delivery, GI Tolerance, and Metabolic Management is organized by Nestle Nutrition Institute (NNI).

Dates:
Original program date: Mar 31, 2020
Expiration date: Aug 26, 2022

Program Description:
Providing early enteral nutrition to the critically ill patient is not a question of “if” but of “how”, “what”, & “how much.” This program addresses these questions including the latest evidence to assist health care professionals managing complex patients receiving tube feeding. This program reviews peptide absorption including the role of the PEPT1 Protein Transporter and how a hypocaloric, low carbohydrate, very high hydrolyzed whey protein formula demonstrates positive outcomes in critically ill patients.

Program Objectives:
• Explain the mechanism of action with peptides as part of a specialized enteral nutrition regimen.
• Identify the role of peptides in the compromised GI patient receiving tube feeding.
• Describe recent evidence with peptide-based diets including outcomes regarding the metabolic management of adult tube- fed patients.
