Description:
Although the topic of vaginitis is often trivialized, it causes significant discomfort and symptoms for women who suffer from either acute or chronic vaginitis. In this presentation, Dr. Nyirjesy will summarize the overall evaluation of women with vaginal complaints and discuss the benefits and limitations of various testing modalities. This section will be followed by a discussion of the most common causes of infectious vaginitis (bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, and vulvovaginal candidiasis) and of desquamative inflammatory vaginitis, with management tips for managing both acute and chronic cases.
Conference Objectives:
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Do an appropriate work-up of a woman with vulvovaginal symptoms
• Have an appreciation for limitations of various testing modalities for vaginal infections
• Treat uncomplicated and complicated vulvovaginal candidiasis, bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis and desquamative inflammatory vaginitis.
