According to the CDC 36,136 people received an HIV diagnosis in the United States and dependent areas in 2021. The annual number of new diagnoses decreased 7% from 2017 to 2021. It is critical for professionals to have current knowledge to provide effective treatment and education for patients. The CDC also states that Kentucky is at high risk for an HIV outbreak if introduced into the drug using population. HIV therapy was previously limited due to lack of treatment options, but more therapy options increase choice for patient treatment and challenges for providers. Screening for drug misuse is critical to the prevention of or early intervention in addiction. 
Despite growing recognition and social acceptance, sexual and gender minority (SGM) people experience significant health disparities and face barriers to health care uptake in the United States (U.S.). This underserved minority population is estimated to constitute 3–12% of adults in the U.S. SGM people have increased risks for some cancers, including human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers. Persistent infection with high-risk HPV types may cause anal, cervical, vaginal, vulvar, penile and oropharyngeal cancers. In particular, anal cancer disproportionately affects people living with HIV, men who have sex with men (MSM), and transgender women. Compared to men who have sex with women (MSW), the anal cancer incidence among HIV-uninfected and HIV-infected MSM is 20-fold and 80-fold higher, respectively.

Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
• Review the epidemiology of anal cancer in the U.S.
• Identify those individuals at risk for anal cancer for screening
• Describe how to screen for anal cancer, Manage anal pap smear results, and navigate vaccination approaches against human papilloma virus (HPV), pneumococcal infections, and Hepatitis B.
