Course Description:
This course covers the benefits of therapeutic hypothermia, an ancient method that can be used for patients in certain circumstances. Following the completion of this course, you will be able to describe ischemic events like strokes or cardiac arrest, and describe how neuroprotection occurs with therapeutic Hypothermia. You will also be able to discuss the methods used to induce this state.
Objectives:
• Discuss five ischemic events when therapeutic hypothermia produces positive outcomes.
• Explain the mechanism of action and the neuroprotection that is achieved with TH.
• Describe how TH is administered and how to prevent side effects.
• List the medical methods through which TH is induced.
• Describe neurogenic fever and the effects of TH.
