Description:
Effective April 1, 2017, Wisconsin Act 266 requires all Wisconsin-licensed physicians and other prescribers to review a patient’s records from Wisconsin’s Enhanced Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (ePDMP) before issuing a prescription order for a monitored prescription drug. This webinar was designed to help physicians and their health care teams assess options for compliance with this new requirement. Doctor McNett explains when and how the PDMP should be used, including exceptions to the requirement, and what physicians should do–based on recommendations of Wisconsin Medical Examining Board’s Opioid Prescribing Guideline–when concerning information is discovered.

Objectives:
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
• Utilize the Wisconsin PDMP to improve patient care.
• Identify when the PDMP should be checked and for whom, as well as what a delegate can do to facilitate checking the PDMP.
• Identify the various parameters to evaluate in the PDMP that may indicate aberrant opioid-related behavior.
• Take action appropriate to various types of aberrant behavior as revealed by the PDMP.
• Recognize the factors causing alerts to fire within the PDMP and how to interpret them.
