OVERVIEW

The Pharmacist in Recovery: Stories of Resilience and Hope is organized by College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP) and will be held from Jun 01, 2018 - Apr 24, 2021. This Course has been approved for a maximum of 1.0 Contact Hours.

Target Audience
This course is designed for pharmacists and/or other healthcare professionals involved in the medication management of individuals living with psychiatric, neurologic and/or substance use disorders.

Session Summary
Substance use disorders and their impact on healthcare providers and pharmacists in particular is rarely discussed. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, it is estimated that 8% to 12% of health care workers have substance use problems. Furthermore, 11% to 15% of pharmacists, at some time in their career, are confronted with alcohol and/or drug dependency problems, and the median age of recovering pharmacists is 43 years. Psychiatric and Neurologic pharmacists receive ongoing training surrounding the recognition and treatment of substance use disorders, however, rarely does the topic of recovery among pharmacists occur.

You will proceed through the following steps to satisfactorily complete this course:

• Increase pharmacists’ knowledge about substance use disorders within their profession. 
• Outline recovery resources available to pharmacy professionals with substance use issues.
• Describe the structure of accountability added to the person in recovery through the Pharmacist Recovery Network.
• Highlight personal stories surrounding the struggles and successes of recovery for a pharmacist.
