OVERVIEW

The Pharmacology of Pain Relievers: Revisiting the Basics is organized by AchieveCE.

Activity Overview
Millions of Americans rely on over-the-counter and prescription medications to manage their chronic pain and improve their quality of life. Unfortunately, at least two million Americans misuse the painkillers prescribed by their doctor for various medical conditions in 2020 alone. As a health care professional, you have to adhere to evidence-based best practices when administering analgesics and educate patients on the proper use of analgesics to prevent them from developing dangerous side effects while making the most out of their treatment regimen.

This course is equivalent to two contact hours. It can be accessed through the convenience of a computer, laptop, or mobile device.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this continuing education activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Name and translate the rights of medication administration in nursing practice.
  2. Identify and apply evidence-based best practices for the administration of analgesics based on WHO’s an analgesic ladder.
  3. Assess patients to determine the appropriateness of their current or proposed pain management regimen.
