The Legal Development of Drug and Pharmacy Practice Regulations is organized by Power-Pak C.E. - Continuing Education for Pharmacists & Pharmacy Technicians.

Goal:
This activity will discuss the origin of pharmacy standards and why laws to regulate the profession became necessary. A historical overview of drug regulation and the federal laws affecting pharmacy practice will also be discussed.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Identify the historical legislation that provides the current environment for the regulation of drugs
  • Define pharmacy practice acts and standards of care
  • Recognize the rules and regulations set forth by the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA '90)
  • Discuss the rules and regulations set forth by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
