Description:
Refresher Courses are sessions captured at past RSNA Annual Meetings focusing on themes of health care reform, payment models, research and innovation, patient-centered radiology, and advances in the different imaging modalities. Refresher Courses are targeted to diagnostic, interventional and oncologic radiologists and are designed to improve knowledge and competence in responding to the challenges and advancements in the field of radiology. Most courses include an audio-visual presentation, as well as a corresponding transcript.

Course Learning Objectives:
• Describe the location and course of cranial nerves 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, and their relation to pertinent adjacent anatomical structures.
• Analyze CT or MR imaging studies to determine the most likely diagnosis causing the neuropathy.
• Identify the location of the trigeminal nerve on cross-sectional imaging.
• Describe clinical and imaging findings of common pathologies that involve the nerve.
• Recommend imaging protocols based on clinical findings.
• Discuss the relevant anatomy of the 7th (Facial) and 8th (Vestibulocochlear) cranial nerves, particularly in the cerebellopontine angle and internal auditory canal.
• Summarize the relatively complex course of the facial nerve through the temporal bone.
• Describe function of the facial nerve and vestibulocochlear nerves.
• Indicate clinical cases that demonstrate the utilization of MRI and CT in pathologic conditions of the 7th and 8th cranial nerves.
• Identify applied anatomy and imaging techniques pertaining to cranial nerves 9 through 12.
• Discuss imaging features of pathologies involving cranial nerves 9 through 12.
