Description:
Viral hepatitis is a systemic infection that attacks the liver, causing inflammation and hepatic cell death. When the liver is inflamed or damaged, it cannot break down waste products in the blood. Alcohol, certain drugs and other chemical toxins also can cause hepatitis. Patients with acute and chronic hepatitis may be present in just about every practice setting, and healthcare professionals must be well informed about the signs, symptoms, routes of transmission and treatment options.

Goal and Learning Outcomes:
The purpose of this program is to inform nurses, health educators, laboratory professionals and pharmacists about the different types of hepatitis so they can recognize symptoms of disease, understand the risk of transmission, and provide effective care for patients.
