This presentation will focus on pre-operative assessment of a surgical patient aimed at identifying risk factors that may result in potential complications. Some of the topics that will be included are: considerations regarding medically compromised patients, medications such as blood thinners and bisphosphonates (and other related medications), and a history of radiation exposure. Real patient cases will be used to illustrate these examples. The objective of the presentation is to increase awareness of risk factors associated with surgical patients and to provide guidelines to decrease the occurrence of complications. The goal is that every attendee will walk away from the course with a number of clinical pearls that can be applied to daily practice.
