Overview :
Chronic disease is now responsible for 70 to 80% of all health care expenditure, yet most health professionals treat chronic disease the same way they treat communicable disease: with pills and injections. While this might temporarily relieve acute symptoms, it does not address the underlying cause of the chronic disease. This session is the first of a two-part series that discusses lifestyle options to help patients address their chronic disease(s) and live healthier, happier lives.

Objectives :
Discuss how food influences health
• Summarize evidence-based concepts related to nutrition
• Employ strategies to translate evidence-based nutrition information to the layperson
• State the improvements in clinical outcomes as a result of adding more plant based foods into treatment, reversal and prevention strategies for chronic health conditions, including reducing COVID-19 risks
• Develop nutrition related action plans for appropriate patients
