Self-Moderated Exercise: Beyond Clinical Therapies in the Patient with Multiple Sclerosis is organized by HomeCEU and will be held during Dec 21, 2017 - Dec 31, 2019.
The target audience for this medical event is Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant,Certified Athletic Trainers, and Nurses. This CME Conference has been approved for a maximum of 1 Contact Hours.
Course Description:
Current clinical practice in the treatment of multiple sclerosis consists of numerous therapies, including standard physical therapy and pharmacological interventions. Recent investigations have centered on patients’ participation in self-moderated exercise as a staple of the treatment and maintenance program. Literature suggests that adults with severe disability can benefit from regular exercise. Modalities in which the patient was fully weight bearing or seated have yielded similarly positive outcomes. Some research suggests that numerous modalities combined produce greater overall results than programs focusing on a single aspect of fitness. Still other contributions are showing a case for inclusion of higher intensity training as well as inclusion of cognitive training plus exercise. The inclusion of patient guided exercise may provide expanded resources in the search for improving lifespan, independence and mental health of the Multiple Sclerosis patient.
Course Goal:
This course is intended to better prepare the health/fitness professional and ATC appraising the evidence regarding the effectiveness of self-moderated exercises in increasing patients level of physical fitness, mental health and sense of independence in patients with Multiple Sclerosis.
Conference Objectives are :
• Describe the nature and cause of Multiple Sclerosis.
• Name the common symptoms and manifestations of MS.
• Describe the benefits of exercise for patients with severe mobility disability.
• Identify the evidence-based implications of high intensity exercise for MS patients.
Additional details will be posted as soon as they are available.
