Axial Spondyloarthritis is often confused with other etiologies of back pain despite unique characteristics due to lack of awareness by patients and clinicians. In this discussion, the hallmarks of axial spondyloarthritis, including inflammatory back pain, which could indicate more serious health concerns, are reviewed, and first-step treatments are outlined.
Learning Objectives :
• Assess the etiology, symptomatic domains, and classification criteria for AxSpA, as well as the impact of unrecognized disease on overall patient health and quality of life.
• Utilize appropriate criteria to identify patients with possible AxSpA and refer to a specialist when necessary.
• Apply relevant lifestyle modifications and therapeutic agents for the management of AxSpA in a timely manner.
