Psychiatric Nursing: Current Trends in Diagnosis and Treatment, 3rd Edition is organized by Western Schools and will be held from Aug 24, 2018 - Aug 31, 2021. This Course has been approved for a maximum of 25.00 Contact Hours.

Course Description:
Teaches psychiatric disorders, treatment modalities, therapeutic communication skills, medications, and cultural variances in how mental illness is perceived and treated in adults and children. Designed for the practicing registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical or vocational nurse (LPN or LVN), this course educates nurses by updating their mental health skills and knowledge of current psychiatric treatments. Also examines broad categories of psychiatric disorders reflective of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th ed. (DSM-5).

Course Objectives:
• Explore ethical, legal, and cultural issues associated with mental health care and treatment.
• Describe components for obtaining a relevant psychiatric history.
• Describe symptoms associated with common adult and child psychiatric disorders per the DSM-5.
• Identify current treatment modalities and medications used for various mental health disorders.
• Discuss a nursing plan of care and interventions for specific patient scenarios.
• Identify appropriate nursing measures for promoting safety and maximizing function.
