Probiotics : Assessing the Evidence for Improving GI Health is organized by Pri-Med and would be held during Oct 29, 2015 - Oct 29, 2016. This CME Conference has been approved with a maximum of 1.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Probiotics are marketed and sold to millions of consumers as effective treatments for an array of bowel, immunologic, and metabolic disorders. But just what is the evidence behind them? In this Virtual Expert Roundtable, esteemed faculty will discuss recent advances in our understanding of the role of the microbiome, as well as review the data for using probiotics to treat common bowel immunologic and metabolic disorders.

Objectives :

• Discuss the role of the microbiota in promoting overall digestive health and the suggested links between a disturbed microbiota and certain immunologic and metabolic diseases
• Explain how differences in bacterial strains, dosing, formulations, and shelf life of available probiotics may affect the efficacy and safety of these products
• Evaluate current evidence for the use of probiotics for the treatment of specific bowel problems, including inflammatory bowel disorders, diarrheal diseases, and, in particular, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
• Counsel patients on appropriate uses of probiotics for management of bowel disorders and manage patients’ expectations regarding symptom relief
