Course Description:
Research has established that people with type 2 diabetes mellitus who engage in a physically active lifestyle maintain better control over the disease and its complications. They also keep a more optimistic outlook for the future, making it easier to maintain control. Keeping an ideal body weight and an active lifestyle may even prevent T2DM. Despite this, about 60% of those with T2DM are either sedentary or fail to engage in enough physical activity to achieve diabetes-related benefits.
Goal:
The goal of this continuing education program is to educate dietitians, health educators, nurses, pharmacists, and physical therapists on the importance of promoting a physically active lifestyle to their clients with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an essential component of diabetes management for better control of the disease.
Conference Objectives are :
• Discuss the underlying problems inherent with T2DM, and explain how proper control of blood glucose, lipids, and blood pressure in people who have or are at risk for developing T2DM influences their prognoses
• Discuss the impact of a sedentary lifestyle on the development of T2DM and the role a physically active lifestyle plays in the prevention and control of the disease
• State the three components of a physically active lifestyle that people with T2DM can adopt to manage their disease
