Description:
This activity focuses on the AMA/AHA joint initiative Target: BP on the new Physical Activity Guidelines, the benefits of increased physical activity and how physical activity is a proven nonpharmacological intervention effective for the prevention and treatment of hypertension.

The 2017 ACC/AHA Guideline for the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Management of High Blood Pressure in Adults recommends nonpharmacological interventions for patients with elevated BP or hypertension.

This activity reviews the revised physical activity guidelines and provides strategies to more effectively address lifestyle and behavior change with patients in practice.

Objectives:
At the completion of this online course, the learner will be able to:
• Define the list of health benefits credited to physical activity.
• Describe what patients need to do to achieve those benefits.
• Outline the types, volumes and intensities associated with those benefits.
• Identify resources that can support clinic staff and patients to learn more about increased physical activity as a lifestyle intervention for treating hypertension.
• Define the respective amount of weekly physical activity recommended for youth, adults, and older adults.
