Conference Summary

Pediatric dermatology for future dermatologists is organized by Physicians' Institute for Professional Development in Healthcare / Lakarnas institut for professionell utveckling i sjukvarden (LIPUS) and will be held from Dec 07 - 09, 2020.

Description
Between 10% and 30% of primary child health care consists of skin-related problems (1). The majority can advantageously be cared for by BVC, general practitioners or pediatricians, but children with unclear or more severe skin manifestations are often referred to specialists in skin and venereal diseases. A good education in pediatric dermatology is a prerequisite for the dermatologist to be able to meet the requirements set by patients, parents and healthcare. Studies have shown that ST doctors who have not had the opportunity to learn pediatric dermatology during their education have a significantly poorer ability to make the correct diagnosis (2). Some countries with large populations, such as North and Latin America and Europe, have therefore set up special specialist training in pediatric dermatology, but Sweden's population base is too small for this, which is why all specialists in skin and venereal diseases are expected to be able to treat skin diseases in children.

Overall goals:
The course aims to ensure the future or completed specialist's understanding of and knowledge of skin manifestations and skin diseases in children and adolescents. After completing the course, participants are expected to have adequate knowledge and skills to be able to independently or collaboratively diagnose and treat common and / or important skin diseases, both acute and chronic, in children and adolescents. The course also aims to provide knowledge about preventive measures and habilitation, as well as to highlight important differences between children and adults in epidemiology, symptomatology, pharmacology, local, systems and light treatment. Furthermore, the course aims to increase knowledge of the special requirements set at the meeting with children / young people and their parents.
