Patient Safety Highlights - A Fatigued Physician is an Impaired Physician! There Must Be Rules To Protect Our Patients is organized by American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and will be held during Nov 18, 2015 - Nov 17, 2018.

Course Description:
One speaker will review the science of sleep deprivation as it applies to functional impairment, arguing that it is unethical for an anesthesiologist to treat patients while so impaired. The opponent speaker will argue that sleep needs are highly individualized, and that no rigid rule should be applied. Further, there is no objective means to assess for fatigue-related impairment, making such policies unenforceable.
Conference Objectives are :
• Review the science of sleep deprivation;
• Review the arguments for mandating sleep for anesthesiologists;
• Review the barriers to implementing fatigue prevention policies.
