Oral and maxillofacial surgeons must make special considerations when caring for pregnant and lactating individuals. During this 60-minute webinar, participants will review the perioperative management of such patients, including the physiology of their condition, surgical intervention timing, anesthesia concerns and indications requiring a “pump and dump.” OMS attendees will gain increased comfort in managing this population, helping patients feel understood and well-cared-for during a challenging time in their lives

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the physiology of pregnancy and the ideal timing of surgical intervention.  
  • Describe anesthesia concerns in lactating patients.  
  • Explain the indications to “pump and dump” in the lactating patient.  
  • Analyze special considerations for treatment in pregnant and lactating patients.
