Description:
This module is the fifth of 11 modules in the Nutrition Related Care in Paediatric Diabetes Evergreen course. The aim of this module is to review basic principles of dietary management of type 1 diabetes in children and adolescents. We will review the role of a dietary assessment, how to individual a meal plan, the impact of macronutrients on blood glucose levels and insulin requirements, the purpose and different methods of carbohydrate counting and the impact of glycemic index on glucose levels. We will then delve into nutrition education, appropriate carbohydrate intake and the use of low-carbohydrate diets in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes.

  • Explain the key physiological differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents
