NIMH hosted a workshop on nonaffective psychosis in midlife and beyond. Most people afflicted with nonaffective psychosis are over 35 years old, including those first diagnosed and those aging with the illness. As the world's aging population grows, those living with nonaffective psychosis continue to increase. The workshop's goal was to share the latest findings, challenges, and opportunities for transformative research in mid to late-life populations.
The format includes brief expert-led presentations, moderated discussions among the presenters, and then a final moderated discussion.

Learning Objectives:
Based on the content of this course, I can:
• Summarize first-episode nonaffective psychosis during mid-late life
• Discuss phenomenology and course of nonaffective psychosis across the lifespan
• List clinical symptoms and cognitive functioning characteristics of nonaffective psychosis
• Illustrate underlying mechanisms (brain circuitry, regulatory/metabolic) of nonaffective psychosis
• Explain accelerated biological aging, premature morbidity and mortality
• Recall treatment targets and the consider the development of novel interventions
• Discuss challenges and opportunities for research in mid to late-life populations
