Course Description:
Self-injury that isn't suicidal is defined as behavior that is done with the intention of inflicting temporary physical discomfort rather than dealing with emotional suffering. This issue is not only on the rise, but clinicians are still baffled as to why people engage in this activity. Self-harmers try to replace emotional distress with physical agony, which may seem counterintuitive.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this didactics activity, attendees will be able to:
• Give a brief description of NSSI and what it isn't
• Explain how NSSI has evolved since it was first identified in 1993
• Find out who it affects
• Learn how media portrays and propagates NSSI
• Provide strategies for reducing this phenomenon
Additional information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
